Generative AI Research Mentor (Freelance, Remote)

About the Role

Research Decode is looking for someone who actually works with generative AI, not someone who's read about it. We need a mentor for students and early career researchers who are building projects around LLMs, diffusion models, or generative systems more broadly. This is freelance, fully remote, and flexible on hours. If you're interested, we'll walk you through how mentorship gets assigned once you're on board.

What You'll Do

You'll sit with mentees while they work through model architecture choices, training setups, fine-tuning problems, whatever's actually breaking in their project. Some of this will be LLM focused, some will lean toward image or multimodal generation, so it depends who you get paired with. You'll also push back on their experimental design when it's weak, and help them write up results in a way that doesn't bury the actual finding. Feedback here needs to be honest. Sugarcoating doesn't help anyone finish a thesis.

What We Need From You

A Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or something close enough that it doesn't matter. Real research experience with generative models, not just coursework; published work is a strong plus, but hands on project experience with transformers, GANs, diffusion models, or similar counts too. You should be comfortable explaining the math when someone asks why something works, not just that it does. Mentoring experience helps but isn't required. What matters more is whether you can spot a bad idea early and say so.
