Senior Software Engineer II, AI Enablement

About the team

Symetra's AI Enablement team is a fast-growing team of builders inside our Data Analytics organization. Our goal is to accelerate AI adoption across the company in two ways: by building shared platforms, tooling, and patterns that let other teams effectively integrate AI into their workflows, and by shipping AI-powered applications for the most important use cases.

We work in small, cross-functional teams, build with the people who use what we make, and move fast. Our first product in production, docstream , is an AI-powered document-processing platform that currently supports several of Symetra's back-end operational processes. We plan to continue to iterate on docstream and to build out other products using the same modular architecture, integrating third-party products where it makes sense.

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll lead the delivery of high-quality solutions on one of these teams. You'll design the core capabilities and APIs that support one or more of our products, and the lightweight interfaces (e.g. web, browser extension) built on top of them. You'll set patterns the rest of the team builds on, influence architecture, and mentor the engineers around you.

What you will do

• Lead delivery of secure, high-quality, performant code, and build reusable solutions for others to use.
• Drive design: define patterns, run design reviews, and shape our architecture.
• Improve how we test, automate, and deliver code.
• Strengthen security, performance, and reliability, and lead root-cause analysis on production issues.
• Mentor other engineers on the team.

Who You Are

• An experienced engineer with a track record of leading delivery and shaping design within a team.
• Built and operated production services and APIs.
• Hands-on with cloud infrastructure on AWS (preferred) or Google Cloud, especially containerized workloads.
